Two Female Hikers Found Dead in Nevada’s Valley of Fire State Park
Nevada’s Valley of Fire State Park was the site of a tragic incident as two female hikers were found dead on Saturday afternoon, according to state police. Concerns were raised when several hikers witnessed the women entering the park in the morning but noticed their absence later on.
Upon a welfare check request, officers from the Nevada State Police arrived at the park around 2:48 p.m. and discovered the body of one of the women on a trail within the park. Subsequently, they called for assistance from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s search and rescue team, who later found the other hiker’s body in a canyon.
The cause of death for the women has not been determined and an investigation into the incident has been initiated by the police. The extremity of the heat in the region may have played a factor, as Saturday’s high temperature in Overton, where the park is located, reached 114 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. A significant portion of southern Nevada is currently under an excessive heat warning.
Valley of Fire State Park is situated approximately 50 miles northeast of Las Vegas. It is known for its stunning red sandstone formations and attracts numerous outdoor enthusiasts and tourists throughout the year.
The deaths of the two hikers serve as a reminder of the potentially dangerous conditions that extreme heat can create in outdoor settings. Authorities urge individuals to exercise caution and take necessary precautions, such as staying hydrated and avoiding prolonged exposure to the sun, particularly during heatwaves.
