Poland since January 1 became the chairmanship country of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). In 2022, she will coordinate the activities of this international organization, which includes 57 countries.

Polish Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau announced that active prevention and mitigation of conflicts and crisis situations will be a priority for his country during its chairmanship in the OSCE. At a ministerial meeting in Stockholm in December in the presence of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, he said that this year Poles will demonstrate to other OSCE member states their responsibility, realism and solidarity.

According to Rau, Poland intends to act in a comprehensive and active manner at the chairmanship, involving all the OSCE institutions, the missions of this organization and the country in the work. Lavrov wished the Poles good luck. According to some reports, the visit of the head of the Polish Foreign Ministry to Russia as OSCE chairman may take place this winter.

The official ceremony of the beginning of the Polish chairmanship will take place on January 13 in Vienna – at a meeting of the OSCE Permanent Council. Poland previously chaired the organization in 1998.
