Trevor Francis, former English footballer and coach, died at the age of 69.

The news was advanced by the English international’s family, who also announced the cause of death in a statement replicated by the English press. “Trevor Francis has died aged 69. He suffered a heart attack in his apartment in Spain this morning. The whole family is in shock over what happened and we are all very sad. He was a legendary footballer and an extraordinary person,” it read.

For history, not only is the fact that Trevor Francis was the first player to cost a million pounds in England, when he transferred from Birmingham to Nottingham Forest, in 1978, but also the goal he scored in the Champions League final in 1978/79, against Malmo, and which gave victory to the reds.

The former striker also participated in winning the Champions League the following season, with victory in the final against Hamburg.

International on 52 occasions, Francis has spells at Detroit Express, Manchester City, Sampdoria, Atalanta, Rangers, QPR, Wollongong City and Sheffield Wednesday, in addition to the aforementioned Birmingham and Nottingham Forest.

As a coach, he went through QPR, Sheffield Wednesday, Birmingham and Crystal Palace.
