Alexandre Dumas was left a half-orphan at the age of 4 when his father died. After all, the father was the offspring of a French marquis and his black slave.

In 2002, by order of President Jacques Chirac, the writer’s body was exhumed and with a lavish ceremony and state honors, it was moved to the Pantheon in Paris – the mausoleum for the great French.
