They came in 50 motherships in peace, so began one of the most remembered science fiction television series in the world, I’m talking about V alien invasion; created by Kenneth Johnson and broadcast between 1983 and 1985. V Invasion was all the rage in Argentina, reaching a maximum rating only reached by the 1986 World Cup qualifiers. This series from the science fiction genre entertained adults and children, while portraying in much of the Holocaust carried out by the Nazi regime. The combat ships, laser guns and more special effects captivated an audience that was discovering the true intention of the “visitors”, as they were called, evolved lizards with a shrill voice that behind a false human-like skin and a colorful red uniform they intended to keep the planet’s water and fatten us for food. The main characters like the chronicler Mike Donavan was the first to know the true intention of these beings; Dr. Juliet Parish, the researcher who discovered the red dust bacteria that gave humanity victory, were the undisputed leaders of the resistance, without forgetting the mercenary Ham Tyler. On the “visitors” side was Willy the Good Alien, starring Roberth Englund who would later be known for playing Freddy Krueger; of course, no story is without evil, embodied in the series by Diana, perhaps one of the most remembered villains of all time; played by Jane Badler, who managed to unite beauty, seduction and evil with her character – who does not remember the passage where she devours a mouse alive or her fight with her rival, the blonde Lidia, with whom they disputed the command? The series marked an entire generation that to this day persists in its memories eighty scenes such as Donovan’s feats to enter and exit the mother ship, how the commander in chief removes his false skin revealing his true reptilian face in front of the television cameras, the aerial and terrestrial combats where the sound and color of the laser beams impacted the teleaudience of that time, the birth of the lizard baby, among many more. In our province it was broadcast on Thursdays at 10 pm. And everything was paralyzed; The next day, the children of those 80s commented in schools on what they had seen the night before, while they improvised pistols and combat ships with paper, without forgetting, of course, the anxiety that opening the envelope of figurines produced to fill the album. V alien invasion began as a miniseries and given its success it continued as a 19-episode series, unfortunately its ending was not at the level of its success nor did it leave its followers satisfied; but despite V invasion marked an era and a way of making television, it represents a television jewel for those of us who consider the 80s as the golden decade of television series.
