Do you hate voicemail? You will soon have to deal with video messages. WhatsApp messaging on Thursday announced it is launching a new feature on its app to allow users to send short videos to their contacts. According to the visual unveiled by the social network, these video messages will appear in the form of a bubble within the conversation.

This improvement of the application is based on the same principle as that used for voice messages. Indeed, just click on the button that allows you to record a voice message, “to switch to video mode, then hold down to record the video”, explains WhatsApp in a press release.

Messages up to a minute long

With a maximum duration of 60 seconds, these videos can be made by locking the recording, as is the case for voice messages, and thus not having to keep the button pressed during the entire shooting. The sound will not be automatically played, you will have to click on the video to activate it. Like text and audio messages, they will be “protected by end-to-end encryption”.

“Video messages have started rolling out and will be available to everyone in the coming weeks,” WhatsApp promises in its statement.

However, this new feature is not a revolution for the social network, since sending videos has been available for many years, for a maximum file size of 16 megabytes. Other improvements, such as the possibility of modifying messages after sending or the “chat-lock”, to hide conversations, were unveiled this year.
