“I’m sorry, because it could have been a rationalization of the ministry that museums could take advantage of”. Speaking to time.news is the director general of the Mic Museums Massimo Osanna, who thus comments on the withdrawal of the amendment to the Pa decree which would have led to a reorganization of the Ministry of Culture, among other things by dividing it into ‘departments’. “A department of arts and enhancement could have been created, which could have included, in addition to museums, contemporary art, heritage enhancement, research, thus making our national museum system much stronger – explains Osanna – This, from my point of view, is a pity”.

“The positive aspect of this rationalization was not understood – says Osanna analyzing the possible reasons for the opposition which led to the rejection of the amendment – It was interpreted as a way of creating more jobs, but the minister expressed himself in very clearly that he would also choose the heads of departments from within”. For the director general of the State Museums “not having a central figure who centralizes all the competences and powers could also give a decision-making pluralism that can be beneficial – he articulates – I strongly believe in networking, because there are different sectors that must enter into a dialogue. I hope that we can then repeat it”.

Furthermore, “given that the ministry has many souls, it is difficult to manage them monocratically. Having a group of general directorates that brings together very similar things that are now separate under a single head could have been positive, because it became a way to truly rationalize and create this time the national museum system,” he explains. However, Osanna is also keen to highlight the positive aspect, with which he is very satisfied: “The reform of museums has passed, which adds 16 autonomous museums, multiplying and rationalizing our offer, distributed throughout Italy, museums that until now were even free because there was no possibility to manage them. So definitely a big leap forward,” he points out.

For the director of the Museums “the fact that almost all the regions see an increase in the number of museums and they are museums that bring together several places of culture, such as the villas of Tuscia for example” is also positive, Osanna observes to time.news. “Therefore, these are museums that will become great attractors, because they will have their own budget, their own board of directors, their own director who will be selected ad hoc. This is therefore a great success, and I am very pleased”. The Pa decree will arrive in the Chamber of Deputies tomorrow afternoon at 4 pm and the question of trust will be raised on it.
