China has reopened its embassy in the Central American country of Nicaragua.
Nicaragua has recently severed long-standing diplomatic ties with Taiwan, according to recent reports.

Nicaragua is currently allied with China.
The Nicaraguan Foreign Minister has said that the only legitimate government that represents China as a whole is the People’s Republic of China and that Taiwan is an inseparable part of China.
It favored China, which claims Taiwan as its inseparable part.
In recent years, Latin American countries such as Panama, El Salvador and the Dominican Republic have severed their diplomatic relations with Taiwan.
Taiwan currently has diplomatic relations with only 14 countries.
