Baghdad / Obelisk Al-Hadath: The Integrity Commission announced the dismantling of a network of extortion and bribery led by a former colonel in the Ministry of Interior.
A statement by the Commission, received by Al-Masalla, stated that the operation was carried out according to a judicial note issued by the judge of the Second Karkh Investigation Court, pointing out that the Baghdad Investigation Directorate had formed a team to investigate and investigate information it had received stating that there were operations of extortion, bargaining, and asking for bribes in return for the promise of issuing passports.
She added that the team, after conducting investigations, investigations and follow-up operations, and verifying the validity of the information, set up a tight ambush for the complainant, after an agreement with him and the complainant, where the team was able to entrap the accused and caught him red-handed while receiving the amount of the bribe, stressing that the inspection process resulted in the seizure of an amount The arrested person had a sum of (6) thousand US dollars and four iPhone ProMax devices.
And she added that the accused clarified, while writing down his statements, that the money was not his, but rather for one of the convicts who had previously worked as a colonel in the Ministry of Interior and is currently being convicted and held in a prison of the Ministry of Justice, indicating that the accused had claimed that he had previously sent a sum of money (14). A thousand US dollars with two iPhones for the convict were entered into the prison in collusion with a prison associate in return for receiving one thousand US dollars.
And she confirmed that the judge of the second Karkh Investigation Court ordered the “former officer” who was sentenced to be brought, and the accused affiliated with the Ministry of Justice arrested, noting that the first was brought in, who confessed during writing down his statements that he had impersonated a general manager in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and requested a sum of money from the complainant, while the second who works A member of the prison, he admitted that he entered a sum of money amounting to (14) thousand dollars with two iPhone Promax devices in exchange for a sum of money amounting to one thousand US dollars, and the operation also resulted in the arrest of the prison director and his personal driver.
And she confirmed the organization of arrest reports of the operation in order to present them, along with the suspects, and the seized funds and devices, to the competent investigating judge, indicating that their statements were certified, and the judge decided to arrest them pending investigation.
