After two months of slowdown and optimism, inflation is getting worse again. According to data published yesterday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE), the CPI advances 0.1% compared to June and climbs another 2.3% compared to the previous year, a sign that the moderation trend shown this indicator for a few months is still not definitive and that the problem remains unresolved.

The increase in the cost of consumer goods and services is compared to July 2022, in which prices had risen on average by 10.8% due to the consequences of pandemic closures, bottlenecks in factories, the brutal rise in energy prices and war in Ukraine. In addition, the underlying inflation data worsens, the one that does not take into account the increase in the price of unprocessed food (which has been through the roof for months) or energy products, and stands at 6.2%.
