Chekhov presents performances in the open air. The troupe of the famous Indian dancer Aditi Mangaldas is not the first time coming to Russia. Cheerful guests presented a unique performance “Utsav – the Celebration of Life”.

Translated from Sanskrit, “utsav” means “special occasion”, “holiday”. A special atmosphere is born from the first rhythmic drum beats: it sounded like a traditional Indian Hindustani melody. Soon the aching sound of the harmonium is added to them. For half an hour, each viewer plunged into a wave of a colorful oriental holiday, in which one wants to stay for the whole evening. The energy of the graceful movements of the ancient dance – kathat. The participants of the performance, using body language, without words, told an amazing love story taken from an ancient epic. Kathat combined the centuries-old Hindu and Islamic cultures. In ancient times, it was performed in the palaces of the Muslim rulers of India, but this weekend everyone can see it.

The members of the troupe in a short interview said that dance for them is a way to convey their love to the audience. For this reason, their performances are often held in open areas so that everyone can enjoy the dance.

The head of the troupe and choreographer Aditi Mangaldas had a love for classical Indian dances from her youth. As a young dancer, she participated in the biggest dance festivals in India and around the world. Her talent was appreciated by residents in the UK, USA and the Soviet Union. After becoming a choreographer, Aditi began to stage her own performances. According to her, she strives to look at traditions from a modern point of view and embody them in dance. Today her troupe are frequent guests of many international festivals.
