Ligue 2: “The absentees should not be an excuse”, considers Stéphane Gilli after the defeat of Paris FC

At the end of this last preparation match concluded with a defeat against AC Ajaccio (1-2), Stéphane Gilli spent many minutes discussing with its president Pierre Ferracci. They have certainly taken stock of certain transfer window files that could move forward in the coming days. Because one week before the start of the Ligue 2 season against Caen at the Aube stadium in Troyes (4 matches relocated due to work on the Charléty lawn), Paris FC is advancing for the moment with a very incomplete staff.

A situation which was further complicated with the injuries of Ilan Kebbal and Samir Chergui (2 to 3 weeks of absence). Against AC Ajaccio, Jules Gaudin and Julien Lopez had been spared. Their returns are expected against Caen. “We will see the evolution in the week but we will not take any risks”, specifies Stéphane Gilli.

The team lined up from the start against the Corsicans should therefore resemble 80% of the one that will start against Caen. Paris FC was positioned in 4-3-3. Pending the arrival of a right side, it is Andy Pembélé who should start the season in this position. Yves Dabila, who played very little last season, is one of the nice surprises of this preparation. In the middle, Adama Camara, who arrived from Racing (N2), continues to score points. The experienced Paul Lasne, who finished last season as a substitute, seems to be on his feet. In front of Alimami Gory, begins to regain playing time while Lamine Gueye, arrived from Metz (promoted to L1), seems set for a good season for his 3rd stint at Paris FC. It was he who scored the goal against the relegated L1. But the PFC bowed and therefore ends its preparation with a mixed record in accounting terms of a single victory (against the UNFP), three draws and two defeats.

“As I told the group, for me, there are no preparation matches, we must hate defeat, believes Stéphane Gilli. Of our six games, our first period was the worst. We didn’t play, I feel like we were afraid to do what we had to do, we didn’t cause the opponent any problems. The championship is getting closer, we had to be more aggressive and we failed in this area. On the other hand, what I liked is that we settled 2-3 things on the tactical level and in the state of mind and that we achieved a more coherent second half. We showed character but we take this beginner’s goal at the end. We lack vice, we are a little naive. It is an axis of progress. »

We know that a successful start to the season often sets the tone for a championship. The impression given by this new-look Paris FC is mixed for the moment. But we will see much more clearly when the team is finally complete and the transfer window is over. Despite the workforce concerns and the relocation to Troyes which will undoubtedly be a handicap, Stéphane Gilli has not changed his perspective.

“It’s up to us to be mentally strong”

“No team is 100% ready yet,” said the coach. Absences should not be an excuse. We are still ready to start this championship. I am confident for the Caen match. I am very happy with the investment made by the players for a month. Some like Ali (Gory) and Lamine (Gueye) are gradually coming back. Even if the squad is not yet complete, it will grow and we will have a competitive group. In the meantime, it’s up to us to be mentally tough. And even if it’s in Troyes, I hope we can count on our supporters. »

Transfer window level, the young central defender Loup-Diwan Gueho, who was part of the group against Ajaccio but who did not return, should quickly go on loan to SC Bastia (L2). The loan of Reims striker (L1) Mohamed Touré (19) is under discussion between the two clubs. Finally, if a return of Mahamé Siby, in lack of playing time in Malmö (Sweden), is hoped for by all the supporters, the competition is fierce in L1 and L2. The environment has already discussed with Saint-Étienne (L2).
