The Australian coach had been vehement before the meeting against New Zealand. He assumes his responsibility after this zero point in the tournament.

Australia manager Eddie Jones apologized to supporters after the Wallabies’ heavy loss to the All Blacks in Melbourne on Friday, but insisted he would be able to turn the team around in time for the World Cup in France.

Jones, who took Australia to the 2003 World Cup final on home soil, is now three defeats in a row in his second term after the 38-7 defeat at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

The All Blacks won the Rugby Championship and retained the Bledisloe Cup, the annual trophy contested by the Trans-Tasman nations, for the 21st consecutive year, adding to Australia’s gloom.

After a beating against South Africa and a narrow loss to Argentina, Australia’s third loss was arguably the most painful under Jones’ management, in front of the 84,000 crowd at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

«They worked very hard, but we know it’s not enough, Jones said of his players. We apologize to all the fans and it’s not enough, but it’s my fault. It is my responsibility and I will assume it.»

«It is a terrible result. I take full responsibility. But I’m happy with the application of the players, the first 20 minutes and the first part of the second half.»
