Kidney transplant consultant, Dr. Ahmed Shalbout, has issued a warning about the serious impact of diabetes and high blood pressure on kidney health. In an interview with Al-Arabiya TV, Dr. Shalbout revealed that diabetes is responsible for 50% of kidney failure cases in the Kingdom.
The expert also highlighted the role of high blood pressure, stating that 20% of kidney failure cases in the Kingdom can be attributed to this condition. Dr. Shalbout emphasized the importance of timely treatment and regular follow-up with kidney consultants to address autoimmune diseases that can attack the kidneys.
According to Dr. Naser Al-Juhani, an endocrinologist and diabetes consultant, type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure are closely linked and often occur together due to insulin resistance. In a tweet, Dr. Al-Juhani stated that 60 to 75% of people with type 2 diabetes also have high blood pressure.
