India TV-CNX Releases Opinion Poll on Likely Winner of UP Lok Sabha Elections
Lucknow: With less than 10 months to go until the Lok Sabha elections, India TV-CNX has conducted an opinion poll to determine which party is likely to win the most seats in Uttar Pradesh, the country’s largest state with 80 parliamentary constituencies.
As the election field heats up, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is positioning itself to secure power for the third time at the Centre. In response, opposition parties including Congress, Trinamool Congress, United Janata Dal of Nitish Kumar, and DMK have formed an alliance with the sole aim of defeating the BJP.
This opposition alliance has been named “India” and aims to contest against the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) across the country. Recognizing that the BJP could gain an advantage if the opposition parties separate, they have decided to unite and fight together. To strategize, the opposition parties recently held meetings in Patna and Bangalore, with another consultative meeting scheduled to take place in Mumbai.
Capitalizing on the buzz surrounding the upcoming elections, news agencies have also started conducting polls to gauge public sentiment. India TV-CNX, in collaboration with CNS, conducted a poll on the Lok Sabha elections, surveying a total of 44,548 voters across India, including 23,871 males and 20,677 females.
Yesterday, the results for 265 constituencies out of the total 543 were published, and today, predictions for the remaining 278 constituencies are being released. Among these constituencies, Uttar Pradesh is considered the stronghold of the BJP.
According to the opinion poll conducted by India TV-CNX, the National Democratic Alliance has a chance of winning 73 seats in Uttar Pradesh. In the state, the BJP, Apna Dal, and SPSP are contesting together as part of the NDA.
The survey suggests that the BJP has a chance of winning 70 seats on its own, while the opposition parties are projected to win only 7 seats. Of these, the Samajwadi Party + RLD parties are forecasted to win 4 and 1 seat, respectively, while the Congress party is expected to secure 2 seats.
During the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP won 62 seats in Uttar Pradesh. However, the India TV-CNX survey suggests that the party is likely to win more seats in the upcoming elections than it did previously.
As the election season unfolds, with parties jostling for power, these opinion polls serve as indicators of the evolving political landscape in Uttar Pradesh. The race for dominance in the state will undoubtedly intensify as parties strive to secure victory in the Lok Sabha elections.
