MSP announces the start of the World Breastfeeding Week 2023 – Ministry of Public Health

On July 31, 2023, the presentation of the World Breastfeeding Week (August 1 to 7, 2023) will take place in Quito, which motivates, promotes, and protects this practice throughout the world and in the country.

The event is organized by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) in Ecuador and the Ministry of Public Health (MSP). It will take place in the emblematic Plaza Quitumbe of the Government Platform for Social Development in the south of Quito, from 09:00 to 12:00.

This global initiative that seeks to raise awareness about the importance of breastfeeding for the well-being of both babies and mothers, highlights in 2023 special relevance for working mothers and fathers: breastfeeding and working: let’s make it possible!

The event will feature various activities to inform and raise awareness about the importance of breastfeeding, among which are:
• Prenatal education talks for pregnant women and their families on warning signs during pregnancy and preparation for the day of delivery.
• Dance therapy and low impact exercises.
• Advice on practices integrated into childbirth care and on how to face the challenges of breastfeeding.
• Recreational activities for boys and girls.

In addition, several stands with services such as vaccination against poliomyelitis, measles and rubella; as well as additional information and resources to support nursing mothers and their families.

The MSP ratifies its commitment to protect breastfeeding and promote its guarantee in the workplace so that mothers can continue breastfeeding their children while working.

The participating institutions extend the invitation to participate in this and local events to join in protecting breastfeeding as an act of love that nourishes children and strengthens hearts.

Together we will defeat chronic child malnutrition in Ecuador.
