Morocco pardons more than 2,000 people convicted by different courts on the occasion of Throne Day

The King of Morocco, Mohamed VI, has pardoned this Saturday 2,052 people convicted by different Moroccan courts on the occasion of Throne Day, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Justice.

“On the occasion of the glorious Day of the Throne, His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God grant him victory, has issued his sublime and obedient order to pardon a group of people, including detainees and those at liberty, sentenced by various courts of the honorable Kingdom, a total of 2,052 people,” reads the statement.

Among the beneficiaries of the pardons are both prisoners who are currently serving a sentence in prison (1,769), as well as sentenced in freedom (283).

Among the former, 133 inmates have been completely released from their prison sentences, another 1,632 prisoners have had their sentences reduced, three more incarcerated persons have had their prison sentences commuted from life imprisonment to fixed prison and one last inmate They have changed his death sentence to life imprisonment.

Among the free pardons, a total of 80 prisoners who have benefited from the pardon of their prison sentences or remaining prison sentences, 14 people have been released from their prison sentences while maintaining their fines, 180 individuals have had their fines annulled , another eight people have been released from prison and fines and one last person has benefited from a pardon for the rest of his prison sentence and his fine has also been annulled.
