Explosion Rocks Apartment Building in Gothenburg
In the early hours of the morning, an explosion ripped through an apartment building in Gothenburg, Sweden. The incident occurred at approximately 00:40 and left the residents and authorities in shock.
Joakim Hallin, alarm and control operator at the greater Gothenburg rescue service, reported that they were on the scene, awaiting confirmation from the police bomb squad before they could begin their work. Multiple police and ambulance units swiftly arrived at the site, indicating the seriousness of the situation.
According to Sebastian Börjesson, officer on duty at the police in the West, the explosion triggered a large number of people in Gothenburg to alert the authorities. The impact of the blast was felt as far as Mölndal, some distance away.
The police investigation revealed that the explosion originated at the gate of the apartment building. The entrance door suffered damage, and windows were blown out. Additionally, an apartment door in the stairwell sustained minor damage, but no harm was caused within the apartment itself. Local reports also mentioned damages to cars parked on the street nearby.
The area was immediately cordoned off, and the National Bomb Squad was summoned to assess the situation. Throughout the night, the police interviewed witnesses, knocked on doors, and inspected vehicles in the vicinity. Some witnesses claimed to have seen one or more cars leaving the scene; however, no arrests have been made at this time.
As of now, the motive for the explosion remains unknown, and the cause is yet to be determined. Police technicians are currently conducting an investigation at the site. The affected street resident, who experienced the loud bang, expressed their discomfort and unease following the incident.
