Two men were arrested last Thursday after a Mexican tourist was raped in the Champ de Mars, a green area near the Eiffel Tower.
According to French media, the 27-year-old girl was assaulted on Wednesday night by a group of five men, for which the search for the other three alleged perpetrators continues.
One of the opposition politicians in France, Rachida Dati, sued the mayor Anne Hidalgo for the crime committed and demanded to close the site at night to guarantee the safety of tourists and citizens.
This is not the first documented case, last February, two Brazilian tourists were victims of sexual assault and rape in the gardens of the Eiffel Tower. In addition, the TF1 Info outlet pointed out that “periodically” attacks of this type are reported in the area.
