Destiny 2: Speculation on the Next Raid Reprisal for the Next Season

As Destiny 2 continues to surprise its players with the return of classic raids from the original Destiny, speculation is rife about which raid will make a comeback in the next season. With Vault of Glass and King’s Fall already resurrected, there are only two raids left to choose from: Crota’s End and Wrath of the Machine.

However, it’s worth noting that Bungie also removed Leviathan, its two raid lairs (Crown of Sorrow and Scourge of the Past), from Destiny 2. This opens up the possibility of these raids being “reprised” from the content vault. But what is the right answer? Let’s delve into the possibilities without resorting to leaks or datamines.

One thing we can probably rule out is Destiny 2 raids making a return at this point. The Destiny 2 community is already unhappy with the state of the game, and bringing back raids that should never have left in the first place before completing the Destiny 1 raids would only add to their displeasure. It’s important to remember that Destiny 2 still has another entire “arc” planned, and there is only one more Destiny 1 raid left after this year. It seems likely that these raids will be reprised later on. Furthermore, Leviathan has an advantage as significant portions of it were already remade for Season of the Haunted in the upgraded engine.

If we narrow it down to Crota’s End versus Wrath of the Machine, logic leans toward Crota’s End, despite Bungie’s previous assertion that they wanted to bring back the “big” raids, which Crota’s End is not. The reason for this is that Wrath of the Machine would require a lot more work. It’s a larger raid, and it would involve recreating the entire SIVA-infused Fallen Splicer archetype, which is not currently in the game. On top of that, a new raid exotic would need to be created since Outbreak Perfected already exists in Destiny 2.

In contrast, Crota’s End is smaller in scale and easier to adapt. Necrochasm, a weapon associated with the raid, has not appeared in Destiny 2, making it a viable choice for a reprisal. While the original raid featured regular Hive enemies, Bungie could easily introduce a modified version with Lucent Hive or even implement Lightbearer-type mechanics for Crota himself. Bungie has a history of modifying old raid encounters for updates, so it’s not far-fetched to expect some changes.

While Crota’s End may be shorter, it’s still a Destiny 1 raid that is highly likely to return, even if it doesn’t come back this year. If it does make a comeback, players can rest assured that Wrath of the Machine will likely follow suit in 2024. Then, perhaps, Bungie can start bringing back the vaulted Destiny 2 raids.

As the Destiny community eagerly awaits news about the next reprised raid, it’s clear that Bungie has many options to choose from. Whether it’s Crota’s End or Wrath of the Machine, players can look forward to diving back into the nostalgic and challenging experiences that these raids offer.
