MK Orna Barbiei (Yesh Atid) submitted her resignation today (Sunday) to the Speaker of the Knesset, Amir Ohana. Barbiei is running for mayor of Tel Aviv in the elections to be held in October.
Barbiei is leaving the Knesset after 5 years in which she also served as Minister of the Economy. “The transition to the municipal arena at this time is of utmost importance to me in order to keep Tel Aviv liberal, free and equal,” she wrote. “I undertake to continue to serve the public with the same dedication and determination with which I have acted until today.”
The person who will take the place of Barbibai and start serving as a member of the Knesset on behalf of the Yesh Atid faction is Yaron Levy, the deputy mayor of Bat Yam and holds the portfolio of beaches, sports and youth in the municipality.
