What was supposed to be a discovery turned into a nightmare. A woman who was doing a first flight in a microlight died Sunday in an accident near the Cholet aerodrome (Maine-et-Loire), we learned from the Angers prosecutor’s office.
The microlight pilot was injured in this accident and an investigation has been opened to determine the circumstances in which the tragedy occurred, said public prosecutor Éric Bouillard.
We did not know, Sunday evening, the severity and nature of his injuries. Nor the age of the victims.
A Smur helicopter mobilized to evacuate the microlight pilot
The emergency services were notified around 6:45 p.m. and around fifty firefighters and 20 vehicles were mobilized to the site of the accident. A Smur team was also mobilized with a helicopter.
The aircraft fell in a “swampy area” near the aerodrome. The alert had been given by the Operational Center of the Air Defense Command and Air Operations, based in Lyon, specify our colleagues from the Western Mail.
