Like every summer, the presidential couple joined Fort Brégançon. Emmanuel Macron arrived in the town of Bormes-les-Mimosas in the Var, Saturday evening, reports Nice morning. His wife, Brigitte, was also spotted walking their dog, Nemo, adopted in 2016, along the pontoon on Sunday, according to photos taken by the local newspaper. The Élysée, the seat of the presidency, has not confirmed the start of this private stay.

The Head of State’s last visit to the Var fort dates back to last May. Emmanuel Macron had left to rest for a few days during the Ascension Bridge in the official presidential resort. If the president intends to take a breather for a few days, the Fort de Brégançon nevertheless has all the equipment to work and monitor crisis situations, as was the case in 2021 with the capture of Kabul in Afghanistan.

Brégançon after Oceania

Before the summer break, Emmanuel Macron made a short stopover in Sri Lanka on Friday evening, the first visit of a French president to this island in search of a difficult economic recovery. This stopover, made official only on Wednesday, took place on the return journey of the Head of State after a tour of Oceania, from New Caledonia to Papua New Guinea via Vanuatu.

Economically fragile, Sri Lanka is also torn on the geostrategic level between the two rival regional powers, China and India. A context that prompted Emmanuel Macron to denounce from Vanuatu, the “new imperialisms” at work in the Indo-Pacific, aiming in particular, without naming it, at Chinese influence.
