ON THE GREEN – Twenty years since we had seen a Frenchwoman win in a Major. And it is Céline Boutier, a young 29-year-old golfer, who comes to write this page which will remain engraved in the annals of golf, and what is more on French soil, in Évian-les-Bains (Haute-Savoie).
They were all there, from the most capped to the latest winners in the best shape of the moment. But, nothing helped, Céline managed from start to finish, leaving the best far behind by more than six points, from defending champion Brook Hendersen, her closest rival, to Nelly Korda, the world number one.
One year from the Olympic Games in Paris, this bodes well for French golf which shows that it will be necessary to reckon with it.
