The theater reopened its doors to five hundred spectators with La Traviata

NAPLES – The emotion of the superintendent Stephan Lissner on the stage of the San Carlo in Naples betrayed in a delicate invitation: Thank you for your participation. I ask you for a minute of silence for the victims of Covid, followed by the moving concentration of the spectators, all standing. After seven months of hiatus due to the pandemic emergency, music finally returns live protagonist at the Teatro di San Carlo which has reopened its doors to five hundred spectators offering La Traviata in a “semi-scenic” form.


At the entrance to the arcades of the Neapolitan opera, the public was greeted by a festive atmosphere thanks to the high school students Margherita of Savoy, who offered a special welcome by performing pieces from Verdi’s masterpiece; some choristers of Maestro Carlo Morelli also performed with them.

In the stalls the spectators found the plexiglass dividers, which allow safe distancing, the boxes occupied in every order of seats were preferred by groups of “relatives”.

For this special evening, Lissner focused on Violetta Valery and the Polish soprano Aleksandra Kurzak (later Ailyn Perez in the performances of May 15-18-23); the Nuorese tenor Piero Pretti in the first cast who will alternate with Ivan Magri ‘in the role of Alfredo Germont while George Gagnidze Giorgio Germont. Seven in all the performances of the show that sees Karel Mark Chichon on the podium, for the first time at the San Carlo, busy conducting Orchestra and Coro del Massimo. Directed by Marina Bianchi. The cast is completed by Mariangela Marini (Flora Bervoix), Michela Petrino (Annina), Lorenzo Izzo (Gastone), Nicolo ‘Ceriani (Baron Douphol), Donato Di Gioia (The Marquis d’Obigny), Enrico Di Geronimo (Doctor Grenvil) . Reruns until Sunday 23 May, towards full house. For choir and ballet the show of the recovery also marks the debut of the conductors Jos Luis Basso and Clotilde Vayer. The San Carlo will continue its appointments with some concerts, an Elixir of love, and outdoors with “Campania Regione lirica”, the summer festival in Piazza del Plebiscito and in other places.
