The German national team could use a mood booster at the World Cup: a comedian and entertainer is just the thing.

Comedian Elton caused quite a few laughs during training for German soccer players in Wyong today.
The moderator (“TV Total”, “Blamieren oder kassen”) is currently at the World Cup in Australia and appeared at the training session of the team of DFB captain Alexandra Popp. He was immediately greeted by national coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg. “No, I’m not the new coach,” joked Elton.
The 52-year-old wants to stay until the round of 16. The German selection is fighting for progress in the last preliminary round match against South Korea in Brisbane on Thursday. Elton came with Ralf Kellermann, director of women’s football at VfL Wolfsburg. As a good luck charm he conceded that he probably wasn’t good, since he was already at the Sydney stadium for the Colombia game.
“I’m actually considering going to Brisbane at all. Or if they’re 1-0 down, I’ll just leave the stadium and they’ll win again.” At first he thought that the mood among the German women might not be so good after the defeat: “But no, they are all so positive and in such a good mood.”
When asked what he believed the DFB selection to do, Elton said: “Of course the world championship title.” Basically, he finds women’s football “much, much more attractive than men’s football at the moment.” Elton’s real name is Alexander Duszat and his stage name comes from the fact that he is said to have resembled Elton John when he was young.
