An Argentine joins the market that is altering Planet Soccer: Lucas Zelarayán signed this Monday with Al Fateh of Saudi Arabia after leaving the Columbus Crew of the American MLS. The American club announced the agreement with the areas in an official statement published before the Leagues Cup match against América de México.
Zelarayán, a 31-year-old from Cordoba, had been playing for the Crew since 2019, when he was signed from Tigres de Monterrey. He leaves the MLS with the 2020 champion title, an MVP with 38 goals and 30 assists in 97 games.
“This transfer is positive for both the Crew and the player, and provides us with additional resources and opportunities as we approach the close of the second market window,” said Tim Bezbatchenko, Crew General Manager.
In any case, the amount paid for Zelarayán was not made official. Al Fateh is not one of the most sought-after teams in Arabia: its most valued player is Belgian central defender Jason Denayer, with 35 caps for his country’s national team.
Lucas, former Belgrano, has nine games and two goals with the Armenian national team.

In Saudi Arabia are the Argentines Ever Banega (Al Shabab), Cristian Guanca (Al Wahda), Lisandro López (Al Khaleej) and Gonzalo Martínez, who still belongs to Al Nassr, Cristiano Ronaldo’s team, although the club seeks his separation.
