Investigative authorities in Australia have uncovered hundreds of cases of child sexual abuse by an educator in Australian day care centres. According to the police, the educator is accused of child abuse on 1,623 counts, including 136 counts of rape and 110 counts of having sex with a child under the age of ten. A total of 91 children are affected, all of them girls of prepubescent age, the police said on Tuesday.

The investigators tracked down the man based on recordings that he had published on the so-called Darknet since 2014. A year ago, the police managed to match some objects in the background of the recordings of a daycare center in Brisbane.

The 45-year-old Australian committed the offenses in 2007 to 2013 and 2018 to 2022 in a total of ten facilities in Brisbane and in 2014 and 2017 in a daycare center in Sydney. In 2013 and 2014, the man worked in a daycare center abroad and committed other crimes there. The country was not named in the police statement.

Almost all children could be identified

According to police, all Australian children appearing in the videos have been identified. The parents and the day care centers as well as those victims who are now older than 18 years of age were informed directly by the police. The identity of four affected children abroad is still being clarified.

The man comes from the Gold Coast tourist region on Australia’s east coast and was arrested in the Brisbane suburbs a year ago. The authorities confiscated a total of 4,000 images and videos showing child abuse, which the man is said to have created with phones and cameras. The man had also worked in other day care centers, in which he had not committed any crimes.

According to the information, the identification of the children was very difficult. A first hearing in the Australian’s trial has been set for August 21.
