“Greater clarity on the origins of the Covid-19 pandemic is necessary and possible. We need to take both natural and laboratory spillover assumptions seriously until we have enough data.” This was written, in a letter published in ‘Science’, by 18 scientists, who ask to consider both hypotheses on the origin of Sars-Cov-2: the jump of species into nature, but also the possibility that the virus is the fruit of an accident in the laboratory. The researchers urge “adequate investigation”, which “should be transparent, objective, data-driven and extensive experience, independently reviewed and responsibly managed to minimize the impact of conflicts of interest.”
