Dutchman Olav Kooij won the sprint of the 4th stage of the Tour of Poland, a World Tour cycling event, on Tuesday in Opole where Slovenian Matej Mohoric, winner of Sunday’s stage, retained the leader’s jersey.
The young promise of the Jumbo-Visma team signed the 22nd victory of his career, the 8th victory of the season after stage successes in Paris-Nice and the Four Days of Dunkirk in particular.
Already victorious in a stage last year in Poland, Kooij, only 21, won with a lead over his compatriot Marijn van den Berg and the Italian Matteo Moschetti at the end of 199 kilometers on Tuesday between Strzelin and Opole on a route without great relief.
A much more rugged route awaits the peloton on Wednesday over 198 km between Pszczyna and Bielsko-Biala where the finish will be judged on a final circuit to be covered four times and the line drawn at the top of a small bump favorable to the punchers.
