Two Chinese brands sneak into the top 10 best-selling motorcycle brands in Spain

The motorcycle and light vehicle sector experienced an intense recovery in July after last year’s sharp fall of -7.8%. According to data from ANESDOR, The two-wheeled sector has grown in Spain by 19.8% during July 2023 compared to the same month last year, reaching 22,541 registered units.

The main market, that of motorcycles, the number of registrations increases by 20.5% with 19,496 new registrations; with a distribution of the cake of 58% for scooters (11,322 units), 38% for road motorcycles (7,468 units) and 4% for off-road motorcycles (693 units).

In July, all displacements show positive data, with an increase in low displacement (up to 125 cc) of 12.3%, in medium displacement (from 126 to 750 cc) of 42.1% and with the maximum growth concentrated in high displacement (for motorcycles with more 750 cc) of 50.6%.

The moped sector grew by 19.1% in July, with 1,870 registered units. Some data that, together with the analysis of the previous months, confirm its restructuring situation, with records that suffer large percentage variations and the irruption of positive numbers some month due to the competition of companies that acquire large fleets; as reflected this month, with an increase in the business channel of 263.2%, while that of individuals decreased by 5.3% and that of RAB (Rent a Bike, rental) by 87.5%.

In the analysis by brands, we find green numbers in all the manufacturers settled in the top 10; leads Honda, with 4,513 motorcycles sold and 23.1% of the market, growing almost 31% compared to last year. More positive is the rise of Yamaha, which with 2,576 units grows by +73.1% and is placed in second position, followed by Kymco and its 1,668 sales registered in July, 14.8% more.

In this list, the presence of two Chinese brands stands out: Zontes, the seventh best-selling manufacturer in Spain in July with 909 registrations (+55.7%) and VOGE, which closes the top 10 with 477 motorcycles delivered, 224% more than just a year ago.

Finally, in the ranking by models, we can differentiate between scooters and road motorcycles. The former are, once again, the market leaders, with a total of six 125 models leading the highest part of the registration table, being the Honda PCX 125 (1,001 units) the best-selling model in Spain during the last month, followed by the SYM Symphony 125 (769 units) and the Kymco Agility 125 (701 units).

Leaving scooters under 500cc aside, we find the Kawasaki Z900 leading the motorcycle sales table highway with 271 registered units, 37.6% more. It is closely followed by the Yamaha Y-TMAX 500, with 210 registrations, and another Iwata model, the Ténéré 700, which sold 186 units in July and slipped into third position.
