For several years, Lizzo, an American artist committed in particular to the rights of overweight people and the LGBT + community, has defended the values of tolerance and acceptance of others. A commitment that would not necessarily apply behind the scenes, accuse several members of his team.

The American singer is being sued by three of her former dancers for cases of “harassment”, “discrimination” and “assault” in particular, according to court documents consulted by AFP on Tuesday. Plaintiffs Arianna Davis, Crystal Williams and Noelle Rodriguez have alleged “sexual, religious and racial harassment, disability discrimination, assault and forcible confinement, among other things,” their law firm said in a statement. .

A hostile work environment

The first two “were ultimately fired as Noelle Rodriguez stepped down over this distressing behavior,” he added. The lawsuit was filed in Los Angeles, CA against Lizzo and others. According to the testimonies collected, the singer would have created a particularly hostile work environment.

Among the facts mentioned, she would have pressured a dancer to touch a naked artist who was performing in an Amsterdam club at the start of the year, reports the Guardian. In this same club, the artist would have pushed some of his employees to have obscene behavior in public. The “Juice” singer also reportedly put his dancers through a “grueling” 12-hour audition after accusing them of drinking during work hours.

An “illegal” and “demoralizing” method

“The way Lizzo and her management team have treated their employees seems to go against everything she stands for publicly. Privately, she makes comments about her dancers’ weight and belittles them in a way that is not only illegal but absolutely demoralizing,” said Ron Zambrano, attorney for the dancers.

The head of the artist’s dancing team, Shirlene Quigley, is herself accused of having frequently made sexual remarks targeting certain employees. She would also have tried to spread her Christian faith, in particular on the question of sex before marriage, “despite the protests”. At the same time, the dancers also claim that there was a long-standing dispute over their compensation. Lawyers for the American pop star had not commented on the case.
