Although almost a year and a half have passed since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the war is far from over and –on the contrary–, with the passing of the months it is accentuated and acquires new dimensions. Proof of this is the increase in attacks with unmanned aircraft or drones.

Although it is a strategy that Moscow has implemented since the beginning of the war – and even launches its own drones against Ukrainian cities on a daily basis – the government led by Vladimir Putin denounced Kiev for the use of these devices and came to claim for “acts terrorists”.

The foregoing, after the offensive deployed by Ukraine, which has increased attacks with drones on Russian territory in recent weeks. Just this Tuesday, Russia claimed to have neutralized Ukrainian attack drones in Moscow and in the Black Sea, although it admitted that one of the devices hit a building in the business district of the Russian capital.

According to the Russian defense ministry, it was a drone that, although it was neutralized by a jamming system, ended up crashing in the city’s business district without causing casualties. The device impacted right in the same place where another Ukrainian drone entered the weekend.

The authorities claimed that two other drones were destroyed by air defense in the Moscow region, specifically in the Odintsovo and Naro-Fominsk districts. The Russian army even claimed to have thwarted an attack by three naval drones against its patrol boats in the Black Sea on Monday night.

The attacks on the Russian capital and its surroundings have multiplied since the beginning of the year and in May one of them even reached the Kremlin. There were also several attacks on the Crimean peninsula, annexed in 2014 by Russia, which hit key supply bridges for Russian forces fighting Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky said last Sunday that “the war is returning to the territory of Russia.” However, the Kremlin continues to intensify its bombardments and at dawn on Monday, the city of Krivói Rog – where Zelenski is from, in the center of the country – was attacked by two Russian missiles. The balance was 6 dead, including a 10-year-old girl and her mother, in addition to 75 injured. Even this Tuesday the city of Kharkov, the second largest in Ukraine, was also attacked by Russian drones.
