Adriana de la Cruz López and Mónica Matus are two young pilgrims to WYD in Lisbon 2023 from the states of Sonora and Hidalgo in Mexico. They stress the need to meet Jesus and have “a church that takes to the streets, that causes trouble.
For them, the main reason for going to the appointment with Pope Francis in Portugal is “to meet other young people and share the faith that we live”, explains Mónica.
“At this moment we are in need of that encounter with Jesus and of having a Church that goes out on the move, a church that goes out into the streets, that causes trouble,” he stresses.
For her part, Adriana shares, on the first day of WYD, that she has lived “many” experiences of encounter with Christ that have marked her. The last one is closely related to her presence on the streets of Lisbon:
“One of them is to realize that, when you really give your life to God, things will open up for you by themselves. Before coming, in Mexico they assaulted me and afterwards I was sad for not being able to come. But God with his help managed to get us here today ”.
