For six months, the US Consulate in Naples and the Carbone Archive will publish images to celebrate 225 years of diplomatic presence in the city

Via Caracciolo, three American sailors look at Vesuvius and a cruiser in the Gulf. August 1947. the first image chosen for the # AmericaNA225 social campaign, which will start on Sunday 16 May. Over the next six months, the United States Consulate General in Naples and the Carbone Archive – historic Neapolitan photographic archive of images covering a chronological period between the early 1920s and the early 1970s – they will share historical photos that testify and celebrate the great friendship between the American people and the city of Naples, recalling the strong historical ties with a look to the future. With its 225 years, in fact, the headquarters of the United States diplomatic representation in Naples is the oldest in Italy and, as attested by the archives of the American State Department, the seventh in the world.

Fifty photos
Over the next six months, we will see fifty images published on their respective social channels. It ranges from the US Ambassador Clara Boothe Luce on the Andrea Doria transatlantic, to the building in Piazza della Repubblica, the historic seat of the US Consulate in Naples, which was once the Grand Hotel, passing through the American actor Alan Ladd with Sophia Loren at the they arrive in town by ship. Two centuries of friendship
“The campaign aims to highlight the deep and historical ties not only institutional, but also cultural, family, commercial and economic between the United States and Naples – underlines Consul General Mary Avery – The mutual understanding and collaboration that have developed over time developed have proved to be fundamental for the progress of our societies, and will continue to be so in the future due to the common challenges we face together today. Today we talk about Naples and the USA, other times we have told the 1960 Sailing Olympics or the Maritime Station and the Port of Naples or even Football in Naples … Tomorrow who knows: this is precisely the beauty of what is turning out to be a real “Magic casket” for the city.
