The spokesman for the Municipal Socialist Group in the La Solana City Council, Eulalio Díaz-Cano, has denounced the attitude of the Popular Party government team that governs alone in this town in Ciudad Real and has decided to eliminate the one-minute symbolic act of silence in homage to the victims of sexist violence at the beginning of each municipal plenary session.

“We regret it and we show our disagreement,” said Díaz-Cano, who recalled that the gesture had been taking place in the last 12 years during the socialist governments. “First, it is a good way to show our solidarity with the families of the victims and second, to make visible a problem that is unquestionable.”

After announcing that the Socialist Group would vote against during the plenary session, the mayoress Luisa Márquez Manzano has responded emphatically. “This team will be in the facts and not in propaganda or publicity”, although she qualified that despite avoiding the symbolic gesture, her government team “will be fighting against that scourge that is gender violence. In fact, a woman is speaking to you. We are going to flee from whatever is propaganda and any other type of story, ”she insisted.

After the municipal plenary session, Eulalio Díaz-Cano has criticized the argument offered by the mayoress. “He has equated this type of expression to political propaganda” and in this sense the socialist spokesman and former mayor wanted to make it clear that “the fight against sexist violence should not have a political color” and, therefore, “it would have to be condemned by all the formations”, something that “unfortunately from now on will not happen with the government of the PP of La Solana”.
