Paul von Schell (82), widower of the great Hildegard Knef (†76, “It should rain red roses for me”), and his longtime partner Gabriele (59) married after fifteen years of love. The couple tied the knot at the Neumünster registry office.
According to BILD information, the bride takes her husband’s name.
It is the provisional climax of a long love that was inevitably always confronted with comparisons and the past. Paul von Schell and the German world star Hildegard Knef were married from 1977 until her death in 2002.
During his lifetime, Knef was considered one of the most famous Germans of the post-war period alongside Marlene Dietrich (1901 – 1992), and made a career for himself on Broadway and in Hollywood.
She returned to her native Berlin with Paul von Schell. At his side, Knef, who was often ailing, revived and almost her love of life. Since her death, von Schell has preserved the memory of Hildegard Knef. Now Paul von Schell has made his new happiness after “Hilde” official.

Gabriele von Schell adds: “We wanted to feel and experience this precious moment for ourselves. But now the time has come to share our happiness. Paul and I hope people rejoice with us.”
