On 31.07.2023, within the framework of the project “Reconstruction of the Gan stairs, step by step”, the Department of Development and Economics of the City of Narva signed a construction contract with Vant AS for the reconstruction of the Gan stairs. The term of the contract is 5 months from the date of conclusion of the contract. The total cost of design and construction work under the concluded contract is EUR 296,203.66 without VAT, EUR 355,444.39 with VAT.
According to department director Anne Veevo, “the reconstruction of the Gan stairs is important for the city, as it will help to preserve and promote the historical and cultural value of the urban environment and have a positive impact on society, as well as on tourism and the economy.”
The main goal of the project “Reconstruction of the Han Stairs, step by step” is to increase the attractiveness of cultural and historical heritage sites in the border area for both visitors and businesses, in accordance with the general concept for the development of the historical area along the Narva River. The following activities are planned within the framework of the project: reconstruction of the Gan stairs, a seminar for entrepreneurs, as well as dissemination of information related to the reconstruction of the stairs. Planned results of the project: improvement of the historical coastal zone, safe and convenient connection of the lower and upper walking areas for visitors, creation of infrastructure attractive for the development of tourism and business.
The project “Reconstruction of the Ghan Stairs, step by step” is being implemented with the help of the Estonian EU External Border Program 2014-2020 under the European Neighborhood Instrument and co-financed by the European Union.
The project budget is 400,000 euros, self-financed by the city of Narva is 100,000 euros, program support is 300,000 euros. The project is being implemented from July 1 to December 31, 2023.
