L’any 2019 Sergi Mach stopped playing at Curbs looking for a step forward in his career. That did not mean a simple goodbye to a club where he had grown up a lot, but also saying goodbye to his younger brother, in Davidwith whom he shared a wardrobe.
Since then, they had never met again, with the pandemic or the draw of groups avoiding seeing each other’s faces when there was the possibility. Now, however, both will coincide in the Basinteam where the older brother, central, will start the third season, and where the younger, goalkeeper, arrives to do his debut in Liga Asobal and in European competition (EHF). The last time they wore the same colors, in Bordils, both were in different stages. “I was starting to train with the first team and Sergi was already playing, and it was when he left that I had more minutes”, recalls David, “motivated” by the reunion. On the court, they value the “trust” that they have, but both believe that “it’s not much different than with another teammate”. “The important thing is to transmit an idea and for the other person to receive it, and the closer you are, the better, we carry that as standard!”, comments the elder. The porter still jokes, because “now that I’ve just arrived, I’m sure I won’t be confused by his name!”
Off the track, in addition, the Mach brothers share a flat in Conca. “It’s an experience, we’ve lived together, with our parents, but now it’s different”, explains Sergi, who sees in David, in addition to a brother, “a friend”. Of course, he warns, “some batuses will surely fall!” In any case, having the brother at home, especially in the first days, is something to be thankful for for the little one: “I have a personal guide, and there is a lot of fun with the group and in the afternoons we get together.” When it comes to training, however, this does not imply a lower pace, and in a few days the goalkeeper already notices it: “There is a lot of intensity without generating anxiety, and that is good”.
