Established on August 2, 1957, by Professor Dr. Prasop Rattanakorn, the Institute of Neurology is Thailand’s pioneering institution specializing in neurology. Dr. Thongchai Keeratihatthayakon, Director-General of the Department of Medicine, expressed his pride in the Institute of Neurology’s achievements during a press conference held on July 3. Currently, the hospital has 300 beds and plays a crucial role in caring for patients with spinal cord and tertiary nervous system conditions. Being a referral center, it receives patients from various hospitals across the country.
Moreover, Thanin Vechapinan, MD, the director of Prasat Neurological Institute, announced that the Institute of Neurology celebrated its 66th anniversary on August 3, 2023. Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the institute leveraged various technologies to improve efficiency and enhance visitor experience.
One notable development is the use of intravascular catheters in treating cerebrovascular disease. This approach, combined with Telemedicine, enables the seamless coordination of stroke patients’ referrals from different health areas. Additionally, the Institute of Neurology established a proactive stroke network by employing a mobile stroke unit and utilized advanced spinal surgery techniques. The institute also implemented robotic surgeries for epilepsy and movement disorder patients, as well as employed DMS Telemedicine technology to provide online consultations and home-delivered medication.
