appointed by the president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT), Cristiano Zanin takes office in Supremo Tribunal Federal (STF) this Thursday (3).

He will take over the vacancy left by the minister Ricardo Lewandowskiwho retired in April.

The formal session, which is scheduled to take place at 4 pm, will be opened by the minister Rosa Weberpresident of the STF, and can be followed in real time by TV and Rádio Justiça, in addition to the STF channel on YouTube.

Zanin will be led to the Plenary by the oldest and most recent minister. Then he will swear an oath to the Constitution and sign the term of office. The ceremony will be attended by his friends and family, as well as ministers of the Federal government, parliamentarians and judicial authorities. Lula confirmed his presence at the event.

Who is Cristiano Zanin?

He was born in Piracicaba (SP) on November 15, 1975 and graduated in 1999 from the Faculdade de Direito da Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo (PUC-SP). He is married to a lawyer too. Valeska Teixeira Zanin Martins and is the father of three children.

After being nominated by the President of the Republic, he went through a hearing and had his name approved by the Constitution and Justice Committee do federal Senate and confirmed by the plenary. The nomination was published in the Official Diary of the Union (DOU) of July 5th.

Before joining the STF, Zanin practiced law, acting for more than two decades in causes of national repercussion, such as actions of the Operation Lava Jato. He also advocated in cases involving large business groups, such as the bankruptcy of Transbrasil and the judicial recovery of Varig and Lojas Americanas.

He is a Professor of Civil Law and Civil Procedural Law and has served on the Human Rights Committee of the United Nations Organization (HER).
