Slovenian Matej Mohoric narrowly saved his Tour of Poland leader’s jersey on the eve of the finish, taking 11th place in Stage 6, a 16-kilometre time trial won by Italian Mattia Cattaneo , Thursday in Katowice.

Mohoric remains at the top of the general classification but at the same time as the Portuguese Joao Almeida, 2nd in the stage. The two men were separated by a tenth of a second in favor of the runner from the Barhain-Victorious formation.

There will therefore be suspense over the 166 km of the 7th and last stage on Friday in Krakow during which two intermediate sprints will distribute bonuses.

Even the Pole Michal Kwiatkowski (3rd at 14 seconds) and the Belgian Ilan Van Wilder (4th at 19) still maintain the hope of a final victory.

Fifth at 38 seconds, Mattia Cattaneo seems a bit far off. But the Italian from the Soudal-Quick Step team consoled himself on Thursday after his victory, the 4th of his career only, at 32 years old.

«The time trial is my specialty and it bodes well before the Worlds“, welcomed the vice-champion of Italy in the specialty behind the untouchable Filippo Ganna.

Note, a few days before the World Time Trials, on Friday August 11 in Glasgow, the poor performance of the reigning world champion, the Norwegian Tobias Foss (9th at 21 seconds) and the European champion of the chrono, the Swiss Stefan Bisseger, 14th at 31 seconds.

On Wednesday, the Tour of Poland was the scene of an accident 4 km from the line when a TV motorcycle crashed into the public, injuring four people including two children. Briefly hospitalized, these wounded had left the hospital Wednesday evening or Thursday morning, had reassured the organizers. The motorcyclist and the cameraman, both French, had been slightly injured.
