Demonstrations in Kabul – Taliban stop several women’s protests – Politics abroad

Courageous women continue to take to the streets in Afghanistan’s capital Kabul to demonstrate against the Taliban and their radical rule.

In the call for a demonstration against the murder of ex-soldiers of the former US-backed government, it was said in advance that the radical Islamic Taliban were being held responsible for the “mysterious murders”.

The Taliban, who took power in Afghanistan in August, were covertly killing young men, especially former government soldiers, it was alleged.

Around 30 women gathered near a mosque in central Kabul, an AFP reporter reported. To shout like “Justice! Justice! ”They marched a few hundred meters through the city before being stopped by Taliban units.

► “I want to tell the world and the Taliban that the killing has to stop,” said protest participant Najera Koahistani. “We want justice, we want human rights.” Participant Laila Basam read out a statement according to which former soldiers and government employees are “directly threatened” and an amnesty announced by the Taliban in August does not apply.

During the protest, the Taliban fighters present tried repeatedly to prevent journalists from reporting on the protest march.

A group of reporters were briefly arrested and their photo equipment was confiscated. The Taliban apparently had files deleted from the cameras and returned them to the journalists.

Other protest participants turned against the general discrimination against women under the rule of the Islamists.

At the weekend, the government in Kabul issued a new regulation according to which women are only allowed to move over longer distances in the company of a close male relative.

The Taliban fighters fired shots in the air in the immediate vicinity of this demonstration in order to stop the protest.

Since returning to power, the Taliban have banned unauthorized protests. They usually intervene against rallies.

A few weeks ago, the United Nations and the human rights organizations Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch also submitted reports that the Taliban had killed more than 100 people without trial since it came to power.
