First pediatric neurosurgery was successfully performed at the Hospital Isidro Ayora de Loja – Ministry of Public Health

At the Isidro Ayora General Hospital, located in Loja, the first pediatric neurosurgery was successfully performed on a child under 5 years of age. The comprehensive work of a team of health professionals, made up of: neurosurgeons, pediatricians, anesthesiologists, nurses and intensive care service personnel, intervened in the operation.

Neurosurgery entailed the final stage of cranial reconstruction and placement of a 3D prosthesis pre-fabricated with state-of-the-art biotechnology, which allows patients to restore post-traumatic or post-surgical defects, as detailed by the hospital’s neurosurgeon, Estalin Loja.

The patient, Ahinoha, had compromised her health at the cranial level after a traffic accident, after which she was treated, in the first instance, through the Emergency service. After neurosurgery, the minor recovers successfully, as pointed out by her mother, Katherine Espinosa, who assured that “the work of the health professionals was excellent and with the surgery her daughter will improve her lifestyle ”.

Currently, the pediatric patient receives neuro-rehabilitation therapies and her full recovery is expected in three months to integrate her daily activities.
