The Somali Ministry of Sports fired the president of the Somali Athletics Federation, Khadijo Aden Dahir, today for “nepotism” after allowing a person with no sports experience to run in an international competition in Chengdu, China.
“(Dahir) has committed acts of abuse of power, nepotism and defamation of the name of the nation in the international arena,” Somali Sports Minister Mohamed Barre Mohamud said in a statement, after a woman identified as Nasro Abukar Ali took twice as long as the rest of the runners to complete a 100-meter dash at the World University Games in China on Tuesday.

“(Ali) is not an athlete nor is she a runner,” Mohamud added in the document, issued late on Wednesday.
