In this 16th national edition, the purpose of the call is to reward a project led by a Uruguayan scientist who stands out for her dedication, commitment and contribution to the development of research in the country.

The project must be framed within a line of research in development in the country, clear and demonstrable, either in Natural and Exact Sciences; Engineering and Technology; Medical and Health Sciences or Agricultural Sciences.

The winner will be awarded a subsidy of USD 20,000 to help advance the project and consolidate the role of women in an area where more women are needed. The selection will be made taking into account their academic excellence and the possibility of providing a solution to national problems.

“In Uruguay, UNESCO supports the development of the L’OREAL UNESCO Prize “For Women in Science” which aims to recognize women scientists who, through their research work, contribute to overcoming the difficulties and deficiencies of the current global scenario” , highlighted the Regional Director of UNESCO Montevideo, Ernesto Fernández Polcuch.

Last year, the award went to Dr. Daiana Mir, a young professional, PhD in Biological Sciences, member of the Genomics and Bioinformatics Unit of the Regional University Center (Cenur) Litoral Norte of the University of the Republic and presented the project research project “Genomic surveillance of the Human Immunodeficiency Virus Type 1 (HIV-1) in Uruguay”.
