The Minister of Energy and Hydrocarbons, Solo Andriamanampisoa, remains cautious in his remarks after the statement by Andry Rajoelina who announced on Sunday evening that load shedding should end within three weeks.

Yesterday, he claimed at a press conference in Ampandrianomby that this will not be the definitive end of load shedding but a probable alleviation of the blackout problems. “The problem is that we confuse load shedding and blackout”, he explained.

The level of the water supplying the hydroelectric power stations of Andekaleka and Farahantsana is very low, explains the member of the government. The State must therefore bet on thermal resources, that is to say by supplying fuel to energy-producing power stations, but as soon as the fuels are delivered, they are consumed, affirms Solo Andriamanampisoa.

To put an end to the load shedding affecting Antananarivo, Mahajanga and Toliara, it will take 18 to 20 tankers per day of heavy fuel oil, according to him. For this, it will take at least 80 tanks per day, 20 for loading in Toamasina, 20 for delivery, 20 for unloading and 20 others to make the descent to Toamasina. Currently, 70 tank trucks are running and in two weeks, the ministry intends to mobilize around a hundred tank trucks to minimize load shedding.
