The official logo that will accompany the candidacy of Italian cuisine for UNESCO intangible heritage has been unveiled in Pompeii, in the Amphitheater of the archaeological area. In the foreground, the hand of a chef holds a large frying pan over the fire, from which some excellences of Italian food and wine come out in the shape of a thread of smoke, from pasta to pizza, from wine to oil, together with the faces of characters such as Dante , Verdi, Leonardo and iconic monuments such as the Leaning Tower, the Colosseum, the Valley of the Temples, the Rialto Bridge, the Mole Antonelliana, to represent the union between culture, agriculture and gastronomy, for a happy marriage that Italy hopes to celebrate in 2025 with the victory of the candidacy of Italian cuisine for UNESCO.

“Gone are the times when tourists came here to Pompeii and found the ‘closed’ sign and where grave robbers stole precious finds: indeed, today many objects are returned to us”, underlined the Minister of Culture, Gennaro Sangiuliano, in the ‘Amphitheater of the archaeological area of ​​Pompeii. “Tonight – said Sangiuliano – we are putting another brick in a process that wants to bring Italian cuisine, which is a global excellence, to have international recognition. We do it from Pompeii, because I am convinced of the value of the nation system: the notion of beauty referring to Italy is not only for the cultural, artistic and archaeological heritage that we can boast but it refers to all our realities and activities, of which the food and wine chain is an important and universally recognized part, also an opportunity for our socio-economic development”.

The Minister of Agriculture, Francesco Lollobrigida, underlined that “Italian cuisine brings together history, culture, quality, traditions, and is a driving force for the growth of our economy and our nation. In this sense, the synergistic action of the entire Meloni government seeks to use and enhance the potential of each ministry to make every element of our Italy grow”. “Italy is not and does not want to be a military superpower, it cannot be an economic superpower but it is undoubtedly the superpower of quality – said Lollobrigida – and cuisine is an important element of this, in its great diversity and excellence”. For the minister, “the mistake made in the past must be remedied, to the point that French and Mexican, Korean and Japanese cuisine have recognition from UNESCO that Italy does not yet have: but we are convinced that from 2025 will be able to boast this title, as it should be, also for the growth of our businesses and the entire agri-food sector”.

The Minister of the Interior, Matteo Piantedosi, highlighted that “relaunching Italy’s important assets, starting with culture, can represent a strengthening of our economy, also in terms of prevention in relation to security and legality”. “It is also thanks to culture and food and wine that circuits of legality can be activated, for a healthy and better economy and society”, underlined the owner of the Interior Ministry.
