Fulda (oz/as) – In Hesse, the “Big Holidays” are getting closer to the middle – some families are just starting their summer vacation now. But the first are already returning. When you unpack your luggage, you often find the remaining coins and bills that you had ready in the currency of the holiday destination: Norwegian or Danish kroner, Polish zloty or possibly a few US dollars.

“Many people stow these leftover coins from the holiday budget in some drawer, where they then lie around for years. But this money would help our Caritas a lot – no matter how small the amount is,” explains the Fulda diocesan Caritas director Dr. Markus Juch: “With our ‘Small coins, big help’ campaign, many small donations come together in different currencies. We at Caritas are allowed to exchange these small amounts of third-party money for euros. Half of the proceeds then flow back to the collection points, where they help to co-finance local charitable projects. The rest will benefit the Ukraine aid for the Fulda Caritas partner association in Ivano-Frankivsk!”

Foreign currencies can be handed in at the Fulda Caritas headquarters at Wilhelmstraße 2 by the cathedral, at the regional Caritas associations in Fulda, Geisa, Hanau, Kassel and Marburg, as well as in numerous Caritas and church facilities such as nursing homes, parish centers or daycare centers. A directory where those interested can find the nearest collection point is available online at www.caritas-fulda.de – please go to the “Commitment & Donations” menu item and go to the “Helping Others” sub-page.

“By the way, invalid old currencies such as D-Mark or Austrian shillings and Dutch guilders are also welcome,” emphasizes Caritas director Juch: “We would like to say a big thank you for every foreign currency donation!”
