He fuel price It has skyrocketed in the last year as a result, among other things, of the war in Ukraine. Over the past two years, numerous governments have approved measures to alleviate the impact on consumers’ pockets. For example, in Spain the anti-crisis decree included discounts on the Gasoline. In Italy, they have gone one step further and since August 1, gas stations must display the average gasoline and diesel prices.

As reported by the Italian news agency Ansa, at service stations managers must show not only the selling prices of your own system, but also the national average of gasoline and diesel prices. The objective of the Italian Government with this measure is to “guarantee maximum transparency and favor consumer choice,” details Ansa.

The system to be followed is as follows: every morning the Italian Ministry of Business will publish average prices on its website and gas stations will have two hours to inform customers. These signs must be visible in the refueling areas and must guarantee minimum visibility. They will show the prices in euros per liter of diesel, gasoline, LPG, methane.

To calculate the table of average prices that must be displayed, the marketers must inform the Ministry of their prices with decimals. Once received, it will perform the average calculation at the regional and national level and publish it daily. This table will be the one that they include next to their own prices.

The entire measure comes from a fuel decree published in January that already contemplated this issue. In fact, it has been involved in a great controversy since the managers of the service stations expressed their complaints and their fear that the measure would not contribute to lowering prices. Some also pointed to the complication of average consumers to understand a table full of figures.

However, the Lazio Administrative Court rejected the appeals filed and gave the green light to expose the double price, as reported by Ansa. non-compliance with the regulations It can entail fines between 200 and 2,000 euros and even the suspension of the activity for those who repeatedly fail to comply with it.

Could it be applied in Spain?

For the moment, in Spain no one from the Government or the fuel companies have ruled on that issue.

In our country, the anti-crisis measures are now focused on the reduction of VAT on basic products and aid for transport. Regarding fuels, the Government extended the discount of 10 cents per liter of diesel for professional road transport last June by decree-law, so it does not have an effective application for private drivers.
